Import a KNX project
Where: Configurator → Device Import → KNX tab
The KNX tab shows only when KNX is switched on in Project & Bridge.
Files you can use
- An ETS project file: .knxproj (ETS 4 / 5 / 6).
- A group address export: .xml.
Any other file is refused with: Unsupported file. Use .knxproj or .xml.
Why XML is the safer choice
XML export is the best way.
- An XML file is read as plain text. It has no password and no locked parts.
- A .knxproj file can be refused:
- when the project has a password,
- when the project data inside is encrypted,
- when no project data is found inside.
- What you lose with XML: the hardware list, and the link between an address and its KNX device. With .knxproj, AC addresses are grouped by the device they are linked to. With XML, they are grouped by name and address block.
A .knxproj with a password
A .knxproj with a password needs that password removed. Remove it in ETS and export again, or use the XML export.
Before you start
- Make the rooms first, in the Rooms step. The import matches each address name to a room of this home. It never makes up a room. (Only when the home has no rooms at all does it add the rooms it found.)
- Name the addresses in ETS by the rules in KNX naming rules.
- Fill Gateway IP, Port and Physical Addr at the top of the KNX tab.
Steps — XML route
- In ETS, export the group addresses as XML.
- Open Device Import → KNX.
- Drop the .xml file on the box Drop .knxproj or .xml file here, or click it and pick the file.
- Read the green line: Found … GAs → … rooms, … lights, … blinds.
- Check the review table (see below).
- Press Confirm Import. Or Cancel to write nothing.
Steps — .knxproj route
- In ETS, make sure the project has no password.
- Export the project as .knxproj.
- Do steps 2–6 of the XML route. The green line also shows the number of hardware modules.
Read the review table
- Each device shows its Room, Name and Category (Light, Curtain, HVAC).
- A red line … device(s) name no room of this home — assign them in the review table means some names did not match a room. Pick a room in the Room list for each one (Room not found in this home — pick one).
- The Importing tiles show what will go in: Lights, Curtain motors, and when present Air conditioners and Fans.
- Skipping lists what will not go in (for example devices with no address).
to confirm boxes (AC and fan)
- A box shows to confirm when it has no address yet.
- Click it. You get this project's unused addresses of the right type. Pick one.
- If the box says to confirm (… ?), the hint tells you which address name looks right.
- A box you leave empty: the app shows that value with no control.
- Addresses that are not AC or fan addresses are listed under the card. They are never dropped.
- When AC words sit in one address block, a blue line offers Combine into one AC. Nothing combines until you tap it. Tap Not now to leave it.
Import again (re-import)
When the home already has a KNX import, a new file is compared with it by group address. Only the differences show.
- New devices: shown to add. A gold room is the room the name proposed.
- CHANGED (an address changed): ticked by default. Room, name and scenes stay. Untick to keep the old address.
- NOT IN FILE (gone from the file): kept by default. Tick it only if it was really taken out of the house. The scenes it is used in are named.
- Press Confirm to apply, Cancel to write nothing.
- If the project changed while the screen was open, Confirm changes nothing and says: Load the file again to see the current differences.
If it goes wrong
- No devices found — the addresses have no names. Name them in ETS and import again.
- Password message — the .knxproj has a password. Remove it in ETS, or use the XML export.
- No project XML found in .knxproj archive — the file is incomplete. Export again, or use the XML export.
- Many devices in red (no room) — the room words do not match the Rooms step. Fix the names or the rooms, and import again.
- Parse error: … — the file could not be read. Try the XML export.
