Crestron joins
Where: Configurator → the Crestron box in Project & Bridge; joins in Room Devices
What is a join
A join is a numbered signal in the Crestron program. LuxeLife only sends and reads numbers. The Crestron program decides what each number does.
There are three kinds:
- Digital — on or off (0 / 1). Used for presses.
- Analog — a number 0–65535. Used for levels. LuxeLife turns 0–100 % into 0–65535 (50 % = 32768).
- Serial — text.
Join 0 is never valid.
Feedback is on the same join
The feedback comes back on the same join as the press. If the press is join 7, the processor must report join 7. A dimmer level is sent and reported on its own analog join.
A light whose program does not report on its join shows as not confirmed in the app. This is a fault in the Crestron program.
A press
For every digital press the hub sends 1 and then 0. Do not add your own pulse to the same join in the Crestron program.
Which features use which joins
| Feature | Joins |
|---|---|
| Light | On, Off (digital); Dimmer (analog, optional) |
| Curtain | Open, Stop, Close (digital); Tilt |
| Scene | one digital join |
| AC | Temperature, Mode, Fan, Power |
| Fan | Power, or separate On / Off joins, or a Toggle; speed as one analog join, or one digital join per speed |
| Projector | Power on, Power off (press); Is on (feedback) (optional); one press per HDMI input; Menu · ▲ ▼ ◂ ▸ · OK · Back (one start join, the next 6 follow); Screen up, Screen down, Screen stop (optional) |
| Multi-zone amplifier (per room's zone) | Power on, Power off; one join per input; Vol +, Vol −; Volume level (feedback) (analog); Mute on / Mute off; Muted (feedback) |
| Set-top box by IR via Crestron | one digital join per button (Power, Up, Down, Left, Right, OK, Menu, Back, Guide, Ch +, Ch −, Play / Pause, 0–9) |
Projector: when the projector goes on, the screen goes down; off, the screen goes up.
Join number limits
| Module | Digital | Analog |
|---|---|---|
| CommandFusion | 1–4000 | 1–20 |
| LuxeLife Link | 1–4000 | 1–2000 |
The configurator refuses a number outside the limit of the device's processor. A join number is unique only inside its processor. The same number on two processors is two different joins.
The processor modules
Set in the Crestron box in Project & Bridge, per processor: Crestron module on this processor → CommandFusion or LuxeLife Link.
- CommandFusion — usual port 8021. Needs Password and Heartbeat.
- LuxeLife Link — our own module. Default port 8030. Ports 8021–8030 only. Any other port is refused: Use a port between 8021 and 8030, as set in the Crestron module.
- If nothing is set, Link uses port 8030. The Crestron programmer needs only an EISC symbol with IP-ID A1 at 127.0.0.2, wired to the joins.
- Never use port 41794. It belongs to Crestron itself.
- The Port must match the module's port in the Crestron program.
Today LuxeLife Link works only on the home's first processor, as its first connection. Save & Deploy stops and says why.
Several processors
- Add each processor in Project & Bridge (Name, Address, Port).
- Each room follows a processor. By default it is the first one.
- Any device can pick another processor. Its join chip shows the processor name.
If it goes wrong (a press does nothing)
- Check the processor status line. Not connected yet — tried after Deploy means Deploy has not run.
- Check Address and Port match the Crestron module.
- For LuxeLife Link: is the port between 8021 and 8030? Is the EISC (IP-ID A1, 127.0.0.2) in the program?
- For CommandFusion: check the password.
- Check the device uses the right processor.
- Check the join number is inside the limit for that module.
- Press works but the app shows not confirmed: the program does not report on the same join. Fix the program.
- A dimmer level is overtaken: some programs ramp to full on On. Send the level instead.
