How do I license a hub after it is installed?

Before you start — check the version first

Look at the hub's own screen before anyone logs in. The top line must read LuxeLife Hub — v1.0.13 or newer. If it shows an older version (for example v1.0.6 or v1.0.4), stop: the license command does not exist on it and our support cannot reach it. Install the current system first with a fresh download (see How do I install LuxeLife on a new hub?). On the hub you can also type cat /etc/luxelife-release — the first line must say LUXELIFE_IMAGE_VERSION=v1.0.13 or newer.

1. Get a license key. In the dealer portal, open Licenses and press Generate license. Copy the key. It looks like LXL-4HEP-379E. Each key works on one hub only.

2. Log in on the hub's own screen and keyboard. Username luxelife. The password is the one shown on that hub's screen.

3. Type the command with your key:

license LXL-XXXX-XXXX

Capital or small letters both work, and licence works as well as license.

What you should see: License key accepted, then Starting activation (up to 2 minutes), then ✓ This hub is now licensed and activated with the home it belongs to. The hub can now be opened from the LuxeLife app on that network.

If it does not work, the hub says why. The usual causes:

Fix the cause, then type:

sudo systemctl restart luxelife-bridge

This hub is already licensed means it already belongs to a home. To move it to a different home, contact LuxeLife: the current license has to be released first.

No license command, or no Licensed line on the screen? The hub is on an old system (older than v1.0.9). Install the current system with the installer pendrive first (see How do I install LuxeLife on a new hub?).
